How to: Create and Run a clan

Are you interested in creating a clan but is not sure where to start and how to even start? Then you have come to the right thread, for here I will be explaining step to step about how to create a good clan. I will explain on this thread what you should do to get yourself a proper clan page and how you should continue afterwards.

Step 1: Type of Clan RP

The whole concept of clans is about having a purpose, a goal. For your clan to work against something or for something you should have an idea of what kind of clan RP you want to do. This specific roleplay your clan will perform is what will create the theme for your clan. This decision is what the most important one to actually be able to do a proper clan.

I have listed few examples of what you can do:
Military RP
Espionage RP
Security RP
Research RP
Mafia RP
Racing Club RP
These are the most common type of clanRP's. But the more unique your clanRP is, the chance of your clan become greater increases.

Step 2: Name

The name of your clan is one of the most important aspects of creating a clan and running one. In order for you to create a clan you should have something that is attractive and is easy to remember. This way you can get more attention and thus eventually get members.

When you choose your clan name you should be very picky. You do not want clan names like "The Destroyers" or "Killer Clan". This comes off incredibly unprofessional and usually gives the reader a bad impression. A good name for a clan should be something like "Marcetti Family" or "Whelan Security". Both of these names are easy to remember and looks somewhat clean and mature.

Step 3: Clan Thread

For obvious reasons the clan thread is what represents your clan. On this page you, ideally, would display information about your clan and its ranks. Some clans decides to take one step further and adds other information about their various systems to enhance the management. I have made a little example of how a clan thread can look like. With it I have descriptions of the different sections.

Logo: This what you use to make people remember you more than just your name. It also gives the user a better impression of you as a clan.

Information: Here you display who you are and what you do. Many clans use this section to have a history about the clan, but some just have plain information about what the clan is all about. It is recommended that you really work on this part to give the interested user a good impression and give a better insight of what the clan is about and how it is. A video, such as a promotion video, is also a pretty good feature to have. This could contain field footage to give an overall image of how your clan operates and what you do. This develops more trust in the interested player and increases the chance of getting more members (recommended).

Ranks/Divisions: A clan usually has various ranks, such as leaders, assistants and members. Sometimes clans also has different divisions, such as "Security Division" and "Research Division". To give the interested user a picture of what these divisions and ranks are about, you could explain in a short paragraph, or a long one if you want, about what they are about. This would give the users a more understandable way of how you operate and so on.

Pictures: To display you previous events or show the buildings that has been built by your clan, you should create a section where you displayed just these pictures. This is good for publicity and this is where you can show what you really go for.

Members List: This is a good way to show how many you are and who is in the clan. Perhaps one of your members has a friend that sees that his friend is in your clan, and then joins? It is also a good way for you to keep track on who you have in the clan.

Requirements: This is where you can display your (public) requirements. Few clans have requirements, such as for age and hours. This is usually very helpful for both you and the interested player to see if they fit in the clan or not.

Step 4: Recruiting

In order for your clan to actually success is to have members in it. Obviously you want good members that are loyal and dedicated. But how does one recruit? There is few options you have for this. The most important aspect of recruiting is simplicity. Not that you let people join easily and you don't need to go through important steps, but it should be easy to send in your application for reviewing.

The majority of the clans has an application template you have to fill out and then post as a reply. This way it is easier for the clan members to see who has applied and so on. It could also be used to get more specific information about the applicant, which is always good to have. Other clans has a recruiting program through a third-party software, such as a Google Form and some recruit only through in-game. But it is important to have a system that works in order for you to get good and loyal members.

Step 5: Advertise

For your clan to be successive, you must advertise it. Best way, obviously, is to advertise it on the FL servers. The ways you can do this is through /advert or simply just set up a nice looking base. This gives you some attention and people do get interested in it. But also behave, no one wants to be in a clan who mess about.

Step 6: Assets

This is pretty self explanatory. You must be able to supply your clan with weapons and miscellaneous items. You should also have a home base where you can operate and set up and so on. A good thing is to be open to donations. Many clans use this to fund the clan. However, this is not a solid way of getting an income, so to take charge for your services is a good way as well.

Step 7: Leader or Boss

This is an important step. You must choose what character you want to take. The difference between a boss and leader is big and they both got good and bad sides. I am going show you the difference between then.

Leader
Coaches Them
Inspires his employees
Gives credit
Fixes Problems
Says "we"
Asks
Boss
Drives Employees
Inspires Fear
Says "I"
Commands
Takes Credit
Places blames on problems

Step 8: Second in command

You should have someone who can run your clan whilst you are away on let's say a vacation. You do not want your clan to die whilst you are away, therefore it is important that you have a second guy in command that can answers questions and lead the clan whilst you are away.

Step 9: Members

If your members are not following protocols or is just giving your clan a bad reputation, do not be afraid of kicking them. Your clan members is the most important factor when you are up and running. You want professional and mature members, not mingy and misbehaving members. Some clans use a kicking system where if the member gets to many "points", he get kicked or suspended. This is an effective way to keep track on your employees.

Step 10: Allies and Collaborations

You should try to become allies other clans in order to create a community of clans and also have various collaborations with other clans. This way you more RP possibilities opens and you can ensure that if your clan gets in trouble, you got someone who can back you up.

Step 11: Activity

Be active. Try to do as many events and meetings as possible, as this will generate not only more members but experience. Try at least to have an meeting with your clan once every two weeks, and if you are unable to attend then get a second in command as mentioned in step 8.

Keep posting updates on the clan thread to show that you are are active. Such updates could be the current status, a thread update, promotions... you name it. Anything to show that your clan is still here and is not inactive.

Step 12: Be Unique

This is the final but one of the most important step. Stay unique, don't blatantly copy from other clans. The more unique you are, the bigger chance you get to become successful. It is indeed hard to stay unique with the broad amount of clans, but think extra hard and you might just find it.

Final Words

This is pretty much everything you should keep in mind when you are creating and running a clan. If you feel that I should add or modify something, kindly contact me through PM and I'll look in to it.
